How Seeing Jesus Clearly Changes Everything in Your Life
Struggling to trust God? Discover how seeing Jesus clearly as your gate, your life, and your good shepherd changes everything.
May 4, 2026 | Spiritual Growth
When you know who Jesus is, you can trust where He’s leading you.
If you want to stay consistent in your faith, it won’t start with discipline.
It starts with how you see Jesus.
So many people struggle to stay close to God, not because they don’t care, but because they don’t fully trust Him. And if you don’t trust Him, you won’t follow Him closely.
That’s why this matters so much.
Why Your View of Jesus Matters
At the core of your faith is one question:
Do you actually trust that Jesus is good?
Because if you truly believed that:
- You’d go to Him daily
- You’d listen to His voice
- You’d follow His leading without hesitation
But many people treat Jesus like they treat everything else in life, inconsistent, uncertain, hard to trust.
And that’s why they struggle to abide.
“What we think about God is the most important thing about us.”
If your view of Jesus is unclear, your faith will always feel unstable.
But when you see Him clearly, everything changes.
1. Jesus Is the Gate, Your Access to Everything You Need
Jesus begins by saying, “I am the gate.”
That means He is the access point to everything God has for your life.
“Jesus as the gate is our access point to everything we need for an abundant life.”
Life Is Found Inside, Not Outside
The picture Jesus gives is simple.
Inside the gate:
- Safety
- Provision
- Life
Outside the gate:
- Confusion
- Danger
- Emptiness
But here’s the tension, many of us want what’s inside, while still living outside.
We want:
- God’s promises
- God’s peace
- God’s blessing
But we keep trying to find it in other places.
You’re Not Missing Out, You’re Being Protected
Sometimes we think God is holding us back.
But in reality, He’s protecting us.
- The relationship that didn’t work out
- The opportunity that fell through
- The door that closed
That wasn’t God withholding from you.
That was God guarding your life.
Because nothing gets to you except through the Shepherd.
Everything Starts With Surrender
If you want access to what God has for your life, it starts here:
Not trying harder.
Not figuring it out.
But surrendering fully.
Jesus is not just part of your life.
He is the way into life.
2. Jesus Is Life, What Truly Fills You and Sustains You
Jesus doesn’t just give access.
He is the source of life itself.
“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
Not Everything That Fills You Sustains You
Here’s the reality, everyone is being filled by something.
- Relationships
- Success
- Social media
- Affirmation
- Culture
And for a moment, those things can feel like life.
But when pressure hits, they don’t hold.
They don’t sustain you.
They don’t lift you.
They don’t carry you through.
There’s a Different Kind of Life
Jesus uses a word for life that means fullness, abundance, real life.
Not surface-level fulfillment.
Not temporary happiness.
But something deep enough to sustain you through anything.
This is the kind of life that:
- Lifts you when you feel low
- Grounds you when life feels chaotic
- Strengthens you when you feel weak
Abiding Is How You Stay Filled
Abiding isn’t about doing more for God.
It’s about staying filled by Him.
Daily choosing:
“God, I don’t want to be filled by the world.
I want to be filled by You.”
And when you do that, everything changes.
3. Jesus Is the Good Shepherd, The One You Can Trust With Your Life
This is where it all comes together.
Jesus doesn’t just give access.
He doesn’t just give life.
He leads.
“I am the good shepherd.”
Not Every Voice Deserves to Lead You
In today’s world, there are endless voices trying to guide your life.
- Social media
- Culture
- Friends
- Opinions
But not every voice has the wisdom or the authority to lead you.
Your life is too valuable to be led by the wrong voice.
What Makes Jesus a Good Shepherd
A good shepherd:
- Knows you personally
- Guides you intentionally
- Protects you consistently
- Rescues you when you wander
And that’s exactly who Jesus is.
He knows your situation.
He understands your struggles.
He sees what you can’t see.
Even When Life Feels Uncertain
Here’s the truth many people need to hear:
Life won’t always feel good.
But Jesus is always good.
And when you trust His character, you can trust His direction.
Even when:
- You don’t understand the season
- You don’t see the outcome
- You don’t feel in control
You can still follow.
Your Role Is Simple
Jesus leads.
Your role is to listen and follow.
But you can’t follow a voice you don’t trust.
That’s why seeing Him clearly matters so much.
Final Encouragement: Surrender to the Shepherd
At the end of the day, abiding comes down to one thing:
Surrender.
Letting go of control.
Trusting His ways over your own.
Choosing to follow, even when it’s hard.
Because when you truly believe Jesus is good, surrender isn’t difficult, it’s the only response that makes sense.
And when you live that way, you’ll discover something powerful:
- You’re not walking alone
- You’re not figuring it out by yourself
- You’re being led by a good shepherd
And He knows exactly where He’s taking you.
