Your life will never make sense until you understand you were created to be with God.

What if the thing you’ve been searching for, peace, clarity, direction, isn’t something you need to chase… but something you were created to experience?

So many people are trying to figure out life on their own. They’re looking for answers, trying to make the right decisions, hoping for clarity in the middle of confusion. But what if the solution isn’t more effort, it’s deeper connection?

That’s what this series is all about. Learning how to abide

What Does It Mean to Abide?

In John 15, Jesus gives us one of the clearest pictures of what it means to follow Him:

“Abide in me and I in you… apart from me you can do nothing.”

The word “abide” means to remain, to stay, to dwell. It’s not a quick moment with God. It’s not a Sunday experience. It’s a daily, ongoing relationship.

Abiding is the difference between:

  • Visiting God occasionally
  • And living connected to Him daily

And according to Jesus, anything lasting in your life flows from this connection.

1. You Were Created to Connect With God

Before anything else, you have to understand this truth:
Your life was designed for relationship with God.

From the very beginning in Genesis, we see God creating a space where He could dwell with His people. The garden of Eden wasn’t just a place, it was a place of connection.

All throughout Scripture, we see this same pattern:

  • God walking with Adam and Eve
  • God dwelling in the tabernacle
  • God speaking through prophets
  • God coming to earth through Jesus
  • God living in us through the Holy Spirit

The entire story of the Bible is about one thing, God wanting to be with you.

Why This Matters

If you miss this, you’ll spend your life chasing things that were never meant to satisfy you.

  • You’ll chase success, but still feel empty
  • You’ll chase relationships, but still feel disconnected
  • You’ll chase purpose, but still feel lost

Because none of those things were meant to replace connection with God.

The Invitation

God is not distant. He’s not avoiding you. He’s not uninterested in your life.

He desires relationship with you more than you realize.

2. God’s Boundaries Protect Your Connection

This is where many people struggle.

We love the idea of relationship with God, but we resist the idea of boundaries.

But here’s the truth, every healthy relationship requires boundaries.

“Sin isn’t about breaking a command, it’s about breaking connection.”

Why Boundaries Matter

In the garden, God gave Adam and Eve freedom, but also one boundary.

Not to restrict them, but to protect the relationship.

Because when we step outside of God’s design, we don’t just break rules, we break connection.

What Happens When You Ignore God’s Way

When you live outside of God’s boundaries, you experience:

  • Anxiety instead of peace
  • Guilt instead of grace
  • Confusion instead of clarity
  • Failure instead of fruit

It’s not because God is punishing you. It’s because you’ve stepped outside of the environment where connection thrives.

What Happens When You Live God’s Way

When you live within God’s design, everything shifts:

  • You experience peace instead of panic
  • You walk in grace instead of guilt
  • You gain clarity instead of confusion
  • You begin to see fruit instead of frustration

God’s boundaries aren’t there to limit your life. They’re there to lead you into a better one.

3. Connection With God Leads to Direction From God

One of the biggest questions people ask is:
“What does God want me to do with my life?”

But here’s what we often get wrong, we chase direction without first pursuing connection.

“The more connected you are, the more clarity you’ll have.”

The Order Matters

In Genesis, we see a clear progression in Adam’s life:

1. Identity

He was created by God

2. Connection

He walked with God

3. Assignment

He was given purpose

Most people try to skip to step three.

They want purpose without connection.
They want answers without relationship.

But it doesn’t work that way.

What Happens When You Abide

When you stay connected to God:

  • You stop striving for answers
  • You start receiving direction
  • You begin to walk in clarity

God begins to guide your decisions, shape your desires, and lead your steps.

Not because you figured it out, but because you stayed connected.

A Simple Shift

Instead of starting your day with your own agenda, imagine starting with this question:

“God, what do You want for my life today?”

That’s what abiding looks like in real life.

4. Jesus Restored the Connection You Lost

Here’s the reality, we were created for connection, but sin broke that connection.

In the garden, Adam and Eve didn’t just disobey God, they hid from Him.

And ever since, humanity has been trying to fix that separation on its own.

But we can’t.

“What Adam lost in the garden, Jesus restored on the cross.”

Why Effort Isn’t Enough

You can’t:

  • Try harder
  • Be better
  • Build enough habits

None of those things reconnect you to God.

Only Jesus does.

What Jesus Actually Did

Through His death and resurrection:

  • He removed the barrier of sin
  • He restored relationship with God
  • He made connection possible again

Not because of what you’ve done, but because of what He’s done.

You Can Abide Again

Because of Jesus, you don’t have to live distant from God anymore.

You can:

  • Come to Him daily
  • Hear His voice
  • Experience His presence
  • Walk in relationship

This is the life you were created for.

Final Encouragement: Go All In

Don’t treat your relationship with God like an obligation.
Don’t give Him your leftovers.
Don’t settle for surface-level faith.

You were created for more.

You were created to abide.

And when you do, you’ll find:

  • Peace in the middle of chaos
  • Clarity in the middle of confusion
  • Purpose in the middle of uncertainty

Not because life gets easier, but because you’re no longer doing it alone.
